Shag Dance Demo
The DJ starts playing Shag music for our Club at 7:00 and we dance until about 9:30 every Sunday evening at the Holiday Inn Cedar Bluff. Our Club gives lessons from 6:00 to 7:00 each Sunday. Beginner and Intermediate lessons go on at the same time in four week intervals and there is a line dance lesson the 5th week (see the Calendar of Events for the exact dates). We ask that all Beginners start their lessons from the first lesson to the last (see the video to the right for a demonstration of the Basic Shag Steps that we teach).

Our Story
The inception of the "Smoky Mountain Shaggers", dates back to 1996, when a small group of dancers would meet for dining and dancing. That group of ten dancers formed the nucleus of the Club we know today. Formally meeting originally in Blount County at the now defunct "Shy Ann's" and moving a total of 5 times over the years to our present location of the Holiday Inn Select, at Cedar Bluff Rd., in Knoxville, TN.
Initially affiliated with Southern Shaggers, Inc. the first board of directors was formed and application to The Association of Carolina Shag Clubs was successfully completed in February of 1999. We held our first election of officers in June of 2000, and our election is now held each September. At this printing we now have grown to over 170 active members and are experiencing record turn outs at our regular meetings.
The Smoky Mountain Shaggers appeared on WBIR in Knoxville, TN to promote the Carolina Shag and the Smoky Mountain Boogie.
The 2013 Boogie was a wonderful success. Three days of dancing and fun in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. We got to revisit with a lot of our friends, and got to meet some new ones too.
This is some of the Front of The House volunteers that you may have seen, but there were many more behind the scene people that made this all possible.
